Average rating of 5/5 Wonderful Chips!, 2010-08-22
On a diet? No need to give up your chips. This fryer takes only one tablespoon of oil for 1kg potatoes to give soft fluffy insides and crispy golden outside without a trace of oil. Maybe a little on the expensive side, but well worth it.

Sadly, delivery was dire.

Average rating of 3/5 If you're looking for a fryer - beware..., 2010-08-25
Having read the reviews before purchase I was sort of prepared for the issue of the size of this item; but it is so much bigger than you imagine... Luckily I have room in my cupboard, but it is incredibly bulky. I was also prepared for the alarm which is as mentioned (a) very quiet and (b) does not actually stop the fryer.

I am also happy that there is no smell and no horrible cleaning to deal with.

However, while it is versitile and can cook meat dishes etc, this machine will not be able to deal with "wet" batter - eg doughnuts or tempura for example because basically it is dry roasting. You could get much the same results by oven roasting your chips on a baking sheet/pan with holes in (there are some designed for the job) and a fan oven set on quite a high heat. I don't have a fan oven so this works for me with chips. My first batch of chips was OK - the second was better and very crispy. Overall, I'm disappointed to realise that I still need to use something to fry those items that need wet batter rather than breadcrumbs. It is also very expensive. All in all not the best purchase I've made.

Tefal ActiFry Low Fat Electric Fryer

This is an excellent product if you need to change your lifestyle or if your time is short for cooking fresh produce. Delivery was also prompt. Came with a recipe booklet that made the start interesting and it is used at least every other day. No more massive quantities of oil and possible to use different flavoured oils too. Easy to clean too.

Average rating of 4/5 Really easy to use with good results, 2010-08-24
So far I've 'fried' chips, sausages, courgette, aubergine and fish fingers. (Don't do fish fingers they disintegrate completely!) Otherwise very successful. I love the chips. Very easy to use and clean - a great help to me when feeding the children in particular. I don't find it very noisy at all (as some of the reviews I read commented)

The one thing I would say is that chips aren't as crispy as they would be deep fried (which is probably obvious) as they are more baked with a light taste of oil but they are extremely tasty with soft insides and well coloured outer.

I'm pleased I bought it.

I must admit I've only tried making the 'non-fried' option (chilli) in it once but when it comes to 'frying' it is wonderful! Low fat cooking has never been easier or tastier. If it was a little less expensive I'd buy one each for my daughter and daughter-in-law too!
