Smartcafe Mug, 2010-08-17 This is the second smartcafe mug that I have owned. The first one lasted me for four years and then the plunger handle broke.
As I am the only person in our household that drinks "proper coffee", this mug enables me to readily make a really enjoyable beverage made to the strength that I prefer.
Wonderful for coffee lovers, 2010-08-19 I bought one of these mugs in a well-known department store several years ago and have used it at work for 5 days a week ever since. It is absolutely fantastic for fresh coffee lovers and so easy to use. O.K. it's made of plastic and I probably wouldn't drink out of a plastic mug at home, but it really solves the problem of making good real coffee when away from home. Much cheaper and better than coffee shops. Now I have just bought two more from Amazon in case the filter part breaks. It's a shame they don't sell the filter separately as the mug itself is virtually indestructible. When I bought my first mug they did them in a whole range of colours (I have orange) but now it seems to be just red and two shades of grey. Please Smartcafe, do all the colours again I'm sure you would sell them. They also make marvellous presents. The greatest invention since sliced bread.
Mmmmmm, coffeeeeee!!, 2010-08-22 I wish I was on commission for these as everyone that sees mine in action buys one!! Proper coffee without too much hassle, I take it to work with me every day and also use it at home. Love it!!
Good - But Could Be Better, 2010-07-31 Personally I found this works and gives a decent cup of coffee which stays hot (despite not having a lid) - so I am using it fairly frequently. There are one or two small things wrong with it however.
The base is a little too narrow and the mug will tip over if you don't keep hold of it while you push the filter down. This however is just a question of remembering to use it correctly. A bigger problem I find is that the rim is either too thick or the wrong shape (not certain which) to keep all the coffee inside as you move the mug away from your mouth. As a result, when you use it, there may be a small problem with little dribbles of coffee down the side (which aren't usually big enough to reach the bottom of the mug but are a little annoying).
The mug is however cheap and I feel I got a good deal for what I paid for it.
Great, chunky "man mug", 2010-08-11 A travel cafetiere is like a dream come true for coffe lovers such as myself. The product is obviously well made, and the fine mesh on the plunger generally ensures that no grains of coffee seep through into the brew.
The mug doesn't conserve heat particularly well, and could probably do with a lid, but it's generally fine. The best use of this durable mug would probably be for camping trips when you want a quick hit of coffee in the morning - make it and drink it. Nothing fancy.
It's not a particular problem for myself, but I don't think the design of the mug is particularly appealing for women. I personally love it, but I've heard it described as a 'man mug'. Depends if you consider your travel cafetiere a fashion item or not.
Heartily reccomended product.
