I bought this steamer to replace a ancient, broken one & the first thing that struck my was that it looked well designed. And, to look at it, it is. The tiers stack well within each other for storage & the excess steam capture is superb. My old one used to sit in a puddle of water on the worktop!

In use it steams well, but I suspect you can say that of even the cheapest sold here. However, I don't know of any food which requires 45 minutes to steam. I would bet that most people would set the timer at 25-30 minutes, maximum. So which bright spark at Russell Hobbs thought that setting the steamer at 45 minutes when you turn it on was a good idea?

You have to reduce the time in ONE minute intervals, but you increase it in FIVE minute intervals. If you are careless like me, you'll miss the time you need by a minute, have to increase it by FIVE & come back down by four. What a pain!

So in all(?) cases you will need to press the time button A LOT, which means within a couple of weeks the image on the button has worn off. Great design, again? Perhaps this is also the reason why, after a few months our first steamer wouldn't let us reduce the time at all. Amazon replaced it within the week & so far the new one has worked okay. But it has lost its button images already.

As a steamer it works well, if you can put up with its foibles. The people at Russell Hobbs clearly don't use steamers, otherwise they would have had a more sensible default time. It's a pain, but not a deal breaker, I suppose, but this design stupidity IS reflected in my rating.

I purchased this product about six weeks ago it was delivered in two working days and i set to using it straight away it was very easy to use it turned it self off afterwards and has a keep warm function and very easy to keep clean. I have had a few tefel steamers in the passed but they always went brittle so to have metal baskets is a much better ider.the two basket side by side steam's the food evenly i have also cooked fish on the tray on top which also worked well. The steamer all fits together well and the only leaking water is when you take the lid off and the steam runs off of it.

Very useful, easy to use, and great to be able to set the times for different kinds of foods, and leave them to finish cooking at the same time. The system allows the food to be kept hot for 40 minutes after cooking is complete, which can be helpful.

An excellent steamer, 2010-09-08
This steamer is excellent. The veg taste wonderful. It is so quiet, no ticking timer like the manual ones. The basket bottoms don't come out which we prefer it makes it feel so much stronger. No good if you want to cook a whole chicken though!!
