When the standard lightbulb was invented, naturally, we applauded. But science means progress - and the world is now looking for alternative ways to light up our homes. This is one of the best we've found. Inside the Sun Jar is a highly efficient solar cell, a rechargeable battery and three low energy LED lamps. When the jar is placed in direct sunlight, the solar cell creates an electrical current that charges the battery over a few hours. When it gets dark or lights are turned off, this energy powers the three natural-coloured LED lamps inside the jar. The frosted glass of the jar then diffuses the light, giving the appearance of trapped sunlight.

We've had two of these... (had to get a replacement when the first one got dropped - oops!) and I agree with what some others have said about consistency.

Our first one was ok. We liked it but it needed some serious sunshine to get it going, and in the middle of winter that was a bit hard to come by, so sometimes it took a couple of days to charge properly. But once it was charged it was lovely and gave off a beautiful golden glow, which gradually faded after a couple of hours, so perfect for my son to go to bed with it on in his room, and by the time we were ready for bed ourselves it had gone out.

The second one though - wow! Sitting on a windowsill even on a dull day is enough to charge it up to last for... well, I don't know how long because I turn it off when we go to bed! Certainly longer than 3 hours and it's still going strong.

What I would do is to give it a go, and if the one you get seems to be one of the not-so-good ones then send it back and ask for a replacement. The good ones are excellent and well worth it, so maybe if they get enough returned then they might work on consistency!

Structurally they are very sturdy (as long as you don't drop them on a brick floor - they ARE glass!) and very attractive. When fully charged it really looks like you have trapped sunshine inside it! My son (aged 6) thinks it's fabulous!

i was at my witts end until...., 2010-03-12
i found this clock on internet. i thought theres no way im spending £40 on a kids alarm clock. but a month on and i thought... you cant put a price on sleep. my son had been a brilliant sleeper, hit 2 and a half and suddenly started getting up earlier and earlier until it levelled out at about 4.30, 4.45. it was really getting us down and we'd tried everything!! we are quite strict and had stuck with all sorts of stuff tried things for weeks but nothing worked. after having the clock for 7 days (we had a few blips in that first week) we had him getting up at 5.30. we have now (3 weeks on) extended it to 6.05am, we have doen this 5 mins at a time and hope to extend it to 6.30. this clock was brilliant!! i cannot recommend it enough!! if youre reading this you ar prob sleep deprived yourself so know how it feels!!! i dont ever review anything i buy but really felt i had to let people know how good this product is!! stick with it for a week or 2 and dont stop emphasising how it (you'll be sick of the sound of your voice!!) and it works. good luck

I like these little candle lights very much I charge by day and they last quite a few nights before they need a recharge. No instructions with them is the only downfall but no difficult to sort out. On other reviews that I read before buying said the charging light went out when fully charged I didn't find that to be the case with mine. The charging light never goes out no matter how long I charge them for. I like the lovely warm glow they give off and the gentle flicker.

Good, but be careful................, 2010-02-21
I've seen these lanterns in Thailand, where we let fifty odd off on Christmas Eve from our hotel beach, where they drifted gently out to sea. In my enthusiasm I ordered 10 for us to let off in the UK, and as the first one sailed into the sky, it occured to me that its landing point would be on land, not in the sea. I don't know where it went, and I hope it landed somewhere out of the way.

I've given them five stars, because they are fabulous and the delivery was prompt, so I have no issues with the product itself. Make sure that you use them responsibly.

Great product, great value, 2010-02-27
Previously we had used a simple energy efficient bulb in a lamp as a night light for the children but found this a little too bright for the middle of the night. After some research I purchased two of these.... Initial thoughts were " wow that's green" however during the night the light does give off a very nice moonlight type glow and now Id never use anything else. Amazon was also much more competitive in price to anywhere else I could find including ebay

For those of you that are like me; that hate winter and as soon as you wake up you feel even more tired than you was when you went to bed; then this fine product could be just the thing for you. I hate winter; dark nights and dark mornings seem to put me into a mild depression. I wake up; feel rubbish; struggle to get out of bed; feel depressed, moody and negative. This is how I feel for most of the winter and it got so bad that I started to wonder if I was bi-pola. Then I over-heard someone talking about light therapy and how a S.A.D light could help improve my state of mind during the winter months. I was skeptical to say the least but I was that fed up I was willing to try anything. After some window shopping; I finally decided to buy this product and how happy I was when I found out that it actually worked. Now I find waking up and getting out of bed so much easier when its dark in the morning. No longer do I feel moody and my depressions have certainly been reduced.

The whole idea of this light is that it tricks your sleeping brain into thinking it is summer instead of winter. For example if you set the alarm for 7am .... the light will come on at a very low level at about 6:30am. Over the next 30 minutes the light slowly builds up in brightness until at 7am it is at its brightness. At this point a relaxing alarm sounds. You have a choice in sounds and I chose the birdy alarm sound which obviously sounds like a load of cheeping birds that you would usually hear in summer. I have now been using this product for over 4 months and I am pleasantly suprised at how effective this light works. Upto now I have had no problems with this product and I am using it every day.
