Be aware, though that the freezer bowl does not lift out of the base, so the whole base has to go in the freezer. It's 14cm tall and 19cm across, so won't fit into shallow freezer drawers.

A super machine. Simple to operate and easy to clean. Best of all the freezer block does not take up much space in the freezer. Can't imagine having to put the complete bowl in our freezer which is always filled anyway.

I ummed and ahhed about buying this having had a basic ice cream maker some years ago which was rubbish. This is brilliant, it is easy to use and clean and works perfectly. I have made vanilla and chocolate ice cream using the recipe in the enclosed booklet and they are delicious (I bought the Ben and Jerry's Ice cream book at the same time but haven't bothered to use it). Having two 1 litre bowls is a great idea, I have used both together and also one on it's own but as the ice cream is so lovely I think that most people will want at least two litres at a time! I would recommend this ice cream maker to anyone.

I have previously tried a cheaper maker, but there was so much pfaffing around that I gave up. This little darling is very well priced, and extremely easy to use. I have used it with Ben and Jerrys Ice Cream & Desert book which has simple and delicious recipes, which in conjuntion with this machine make for dreamy ice-cream. I confirm points made by other reviwers - you need lots of space in your freezer for the bowl - (chest freezers are best), and the ice-cream is initially too soft for immediate consumption. The best results come from a further 24 hours in the freezer - giving a lovely, soft and smooth consistency. The machine is noisy during operation, but you only need to run it for 20 to 30 minutes - and I stick it in the porch when it is running! If you do this too, get a manual timer to remind you it is running and it needs to be switched off!
I highly recommend this machine.

Why is this not supplied with a basic recipe?, 2010-07-29
Received this today and my daughter was looking forward to making some donuts, however, most frustratingly, this machine does not have a recipe sheet included. Surely this would be standard practice for a domestic small kitchen appliance? It certainly is for sandwich toasters, bread makers, smoothie machines, microwaves, etc. I bought a donut recipe book to go with this but it only has recipes for heavy donut mix that must be rolled out and cut, not poured.

Come on Elgento, it would cost you virtually nothing to provide this - the instruction leaflet even has blank spaces where this could be printed.

So - does this machine work - I don't know. What a disappointment.

I took my time choosing which ice cream machine to buy. I have several other cusinart products but still did my homework. I like the fact that you don't need to add alcohol or anything to the machine. Some reviews complain about the machine being too noisy. I have a bread making machine, food processor, blender and chopper etc. The ice cream machine does not make much more noise than any of these. It only runs for 45 mins and then you have fantastic home made ice cream. I have only had the machine for a few weeks but love it. I bought it initially to make ice cream for my grandchildren who are coming over from the states. I am sure they will be as impressed as we are. Easy to use,easy to clean and easy on the eye.!

I bought this ice cream machine on 11th March after it was recommended by a friend who has had one for years. I was a tad concerned over some of the reviews, which slated the machine and said that it doesn't freeze properly, but after discussion with my friend she said that those people probably hadn't got the bowl or their ingredients cold enough. I decided to go ahead and buy it and have been over the moon with it! My friend is right - you just have to have everything cold enough. If you are expecting ice cream that is solid , like you'd buy in the supermarket - then don't buy an ice cream machine, as they make ice cream with a Mister Softee type texture, which how my family like it. It knocks spots off any bought ice cream for flavour, especially plain vanilla ice cream. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Having purchased one originally on the advice of a friend I too found this to be a fabulous little item. As it's only the disc that goes in the freezer I keep it in there all the time and then it only takes 45 mins to make a fabulous dessert. Plenty for four servings or six smaller ones if you use it as a side to something else. Just make sure you leave the disc a little longer than the 48hrs if it goes in completely defrosted and you'll never have a problem. Have bought three more of these machines to give as presents to family. As they are discontinued grab yours before they all go!!

1st ice cream maker doesn't disappoint, 2010-06-03
I bought this exactly a week ago, and love it. I've already made the strawberry and vanilla flavours in the manual plus one of the recipies from the Ben and Jerry's book.

It is easy to use, freeze overnight, prepare your ice cream mix, pour it in and in 20 minutes it is ready.

One tip though, you need to make sure it is bone-dry before putting in the freezer as the tiny holes on the top will get ice in and block the motor switch.

The machine makes pleanty and I have found myself putting the leftovers in the freezer to have the next day (just leave it in the fridge for 20-30 mins to soften and it is still really lovely).

The best thing about it for me is I know there are no dodgy colours, preservatives or nasty chemicals in my ice cream!
